Ray stopping criteria

Criterion at which the further propagation o f a ray is dropped. For example:

  • maximum allowed number of bounces is reached
  • energy of a ray is below a critical value
  • ray is out of bounds
    • in a sequential analysis this could mean the ray does not hit the next intended surface of a node
    • in non-sequential node this cuold be the case when a defined "out-of-bounds" surface is hit or if the ray would hit no surface at all
